How to properly handle a return and get your refund

An online purchase that doesn't work out isn't the end of the world. Between the right of withdrawal and the seller's policy, there are several ways to return a product and get your money back. You just need to know the deadlines, the procedure to follow, and the few cases where a refund becomes complicated.

When and why to return a purchase

The 14-day right of withdrawal

For a distance purchase, the law grants at least fourteen days to change your mind, without having to provide a justification. The period begins upon receipt of the product. This right covers a simple change of mind, beyond just defective products, which distinguishes online shopping from in-store purchases. Some sellers even extend this period.

Returns provided by the seller

Beyond the law, each store sets its own return policy: extended duration, free returns, or easier exchanges. These conditions are stated in the T&Cs and on the product page. Reading them before buying prevents surprises, especially for items where returns are restricted. A generous policy is often a good sign of reliability.

Initiating a return correctly

The procedure via your account

The return request is generally initiated from the relevant order in your help and account management area. You select the item, the reason, and then print a label. Following this official path rather than sending it back spontaneously ensures that the package is linked to your file and processed without delay.

Packing and shipping the package

A well-prepared return speeds everything up: include the complete product, accessories, and manual, in the original packaging if possible. Insert the return slip, attach the label, and keep the proof of drop-off given to you by the collection point. This is what proves the shipment if the package is lost, and what protects your refund.

Tracking your refund

Deadlines to keep in mind

Once the return is received and verified, the refund is issued within a legal timeframe, generally fourteen days, to the original payment method. The seller may wait until they have recovered the product before issuing the refund. Between receiving the package and the actual credit, a few banking days are often added.

What to do if the refund is delayed

If the announced deadline passes without the credit appearing, follow up in writing via the contact page, providing your order number and proof of drop-off. A dated reminder is sufficient in most cases. If nothing happens, the written record of your return becomes the key element to support your request and escalate it.

Tricky cases

Defective or non-conforming product

A broken or faulty item, or one that is different from what was ordered, falls under the warranty, not a simple return. Support handles these cases separately, with photos and descriptions provided. In these cases, return shipping costs are covered by the seller, and replacement or refund is mandatory regardless of the withdrawal period.

Returning a subscription or a box

A box or product received via a subscription follows its own rules: content already delivered may not be accepted for return, while future deliveries must be suspended via the subscription settings. Returning a box does not cancel the subscription that sent it; these are two distinct processes. Check both aspects.
